
Five Rascals Named All-Stars

O'Fallon, MO - Five Rascals have been voted to play in the Frontier League All-Star Game. C Josh Ludy, 3B Taylor Ard, OF Brian Hansen, OF Curran Redal, and DH Danny Canela will all represent the West Division; Ludy, Ard, Redal, and Canela will be in the starting lineup. The Rascals had six Mid-Season All-Stars in 2014.
Ludy, 25, is in his second year with the Rascals and is hitting .275 with seven homeruns and 21 RBI in 44 games. He was named to the All-Star team last year after batting .362 with 16 homers and 50 RBI in 51 games. Ludy attended Baylor University and was selected in the eighth round by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2012. The catcher joined the Rascals after two seasons in the Phillies system. The Oakland Athletics purchased Ludy's contract in 2014, and he hit .218 with three homers and five RBI in 17 games in Class A.
Ard, 25, is batting .269 with a league-leading 12 homeruns, 28 RBI, nine doubles, and seven steals in 44 games in his second season with the Rascals. He hit .338 last season with nine homers and 33 RBI and was named to the All-Star team. The third baseman attended Washington State University and was drafted three times. He eventually singed with the Seattle Mariners after they selected him in the seventh round in 2012. He spent two seasons in the Mariners organization before joining the Rascals. After 50 games last year, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected Ard's contract, and he hit .309 with four homers and 17 RBI in 34 games at three different levels. He was named Frontier League Player of the Week for Week 4 this season after homering in five straight games.
Hanson, 25, has made his first All-Star team in his second season with the Rascals. He is batting .407 with two homers, 14 RBI, and 14 stolen bases in 28 games. The Rascals' starting left fielder attended St. Cloud State University; he was selected in the 49th round of the 2011 draft by the Cleveland Indians but chose to return to school. Hansen was named Frontier League Player of the Week for Week 7.
Redal, 27, is in his fourth season with the Rascals and made the All-Star team in 2013. He is hitting a career-best .314 with one homerun, 18 RBI, and 13 steal and is also considered one of the best defensive centerfielders in the Frontier League. Redal signed with the Rascals in 2012 as a non-drafted free agent out of Liberty University.
Canela, 24, is in his second season with the Rascals and is an All-Star for the first time. He is batting .301 with eight homeruns and is fourth in the Frontier League with 35 RBI. The former catcher hit .360 with 12 homers and 53 RBI in 67 games for the Rascals in 2013. His contract was purchased by the Chicago Cubs in 2014, and he hit .292 with seven homers and 54 RBI in 80 games at two levels. Canela attended North Carolina State University and Lee University. The Detroit Tigers selected him in the 37th round in 2009 out of high school, but he opted to play college ball.
The 2015 Frontier League All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday, July 15 at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium, home of the Schaumburg Boomers, in Schaumburg, Illinois. Last season, the West defeated the East 2-0 at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois.
