(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends will have six representatives, including two starters, on the Southern Division roster for the South Atlantic League All-Star game, which will be played Tuesday, June 23 at McCormick Field in Asheville, North Carolina. First baseman Ryan O'Hearn, outfielders Elier Hernandez and Alfredo Escalera, and pitchers Zach Lovvorn, Pedro Fernandez and Matt Strahm were named to the team today in an announcement by SAL President Eric Krupa.

(The complete release from the league, including full roster, is below.)

"It's great to have six players from the Legends on the All-Star team," said Legends President and CEO Andy Shea. "The recognition is well-deserved for all of them. They have been great representatives of the Legends on and off the field."

O'Hearn will start at first base for the Southern Division team. He leads the league in home runs with 12. Hernandez will start in right field. He is batting .288 with four homers and 27 runs batted in 52 games. After a .234 start in April, Hernandez batted .311 in 27 games in May, and is at .321 (9 for 28) in six games in June.

Escalera (listed in official statistics as Escalera-Maldonado, but goes by Escalera) was named to the team as a utility outfielder. He is seventh in the league in batting at .309 and is one of the league's hottest hitters. He was batting .228 on May 12, but has an even .400 average since then (38 for 95 in 23 games). He has 21 hits in his last 48 at bats (.438).

Fernandez, a right-hander, is 4-0 with an earned run average of 3.53. His WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) is 0.93, which would place him among the league leaders, but he is short of qualifying in number of innings pitched. Lovvorn, also a right-hander, has started 10 games for the Legends, the highest total on the staff. He has a 4-4 record with a 3.52 earned run average.

Strahm (2-1, 2.35) a left-handed reliever, leads the league with 14.09 strikeouts per nine innings pitched. He has fanned 36 batters in 23 innings.

The teams are selected by the votes of managers and coaching staffs, local media and front office executives.

The six All-Stars and their Legends teammates open a seven-game homestand tonight (Tuesday) at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, when they take on the Lakewood BlueClaws, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
