KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 9, 2015) - The South Atlantic League has announced the rosters for the 56th Annual S.A.L. All-Star Game, and shortstop Eddy Alvarez and catcher Brett Austin will represent the Kannapolis Intimidators as members of the Northern Division squad on Tuesday, June 23, at McCormick Field in Asheville, N.C. Alvarez and Austin are both in their second season with the Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, having finished 2014 and opened 2015 with Kannapolis.
Alvarez, 25, is batting .272 (32-110) with 11 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 24 RBI, and 22 stolen bases in 55 games with the Intimidators. This season, he ranks among league leaders in several categories, including second in walks (40), tied for second in games played, tied for third in runs scored (36), and fourth in on-base percentage (.396) and stolen bases. He strung together a 17-game on-base streak from May 21 to June 6, tied for the 12th-longest streak in the league this season. An Olympic silver medalist in short-track speed-skating during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, Alvarez signed with the White Sox in June 2014 and hit .346 (63-182) with 11 doubles, a triple, five home runs and 26 RBI between the Arizona League White Sox and Kannapolis in his professional debut.

The switch-hitting catcher was selected by the White Sox in the fourth round of the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of N.C. State.
