
Five BlueClaws Headed to South Atlantic League All-Star Game

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Five BlueClaws will head to Asheville, North Carolina for the 56th annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game on June 23rd, it was announced by league president Eric Krupa. First baseman Rhys Hoskins, centerfielder Carlos Tocci, shortstop Malquin Canelo, and pitchers Joey DeNato and Alexis Rivero will represent Lakewood in the All-Star Game.
Tocci received more votes than any other player in the leauge, marking the second straight year that the BlueClaws have had the leading vote-getter, following shortstop JP Crawford in 2014.
This marks just the fourth time in 15 years the BlueClaws have had at least five All-Stars.

Tocci, 19, is hitting .320, fourth best in the league, while adding 12 stolen bases, two more than he had all of last year with the BlueClaws. The Venezuela-native played with Lakewood in 2013 and 2014 as well, and started his Lakewood tenue at age 17 in 2013 as the youngest player in franchise history. He is the 5th ranked prospect in the system per Baseball America.
Hoskins, 22, leads the league in batting average (.337), on-base percentage (.416), and slugging percentage (.530), and is third in the league with 38 RBIs. He also leads the BlueClaws with six home runs. He was a 5th round pick in the 2014 draft from Sacramento State.
Canelo, a 20 year old from the Dominican Republic, has 21 multi-hit games thsi year while serving as the BlueClaws lead-off hitter. He is hitting .303 with 2 HRs and 11 RBIs while adding eight stolen bases.
DeNato, 23, has served as a relief pitcher for the BlueClaws this year. He is 2-1 with a 1.46 ERA and has allowed just four earned runs in 24.2 innings pitched while striking out 27 and walking five. He has added two saves. DeNato was a 19th round pick of the Phillies last year from Indiana University.
Rivero, 20, joined the BlueClaws this year after pitching last year in the Gulf Coast League. This year, he is 2-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 16 games, adding five saves and 22 strikeouts. He has not allowed a run in his last 12.1 innings and four of his saves have been two-inning saves.
Hoskins, Tocci, and Canelo will all start for the Northern Division. The BlueClaws have now had 53 All-Stars in their 15 seasons.
