Lakewood Holds on for 3-2 Win over Legends

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Josh Taylor pitched seven shutout innings, and Lakewood survived a pair of late homers by Lexington as the BlueClaws held on a for a 3-2 win over the Legends Tuesday night in the opening game of a three-game series.

Herlis Rodriguez put Lakewood in front with a leadoff home run in the top of the third inning, and Rhys Hoskins added a two-run shot in the sixth.

Taylor allowed four hits in seven innings of work. He struck out six batters and walked none.

Lexington's Chase Vallot led off the bottom of the eighth with a homer against reliever Alexis Rivero, and Ryan O'Hearn hit his South Atlantic League-leading 13th home run of the year with two outs in the ninth, leaving the final score at 3-2.

Taylor (3-4) got the win. Rivero picked up his sixth save. Legends starter Zach Lovvorn (4-5), who allowed one run on five hits in five innings, took the loss.

The second game of the series will be played Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m.
