Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips tied a franchise record by netting five powerplay goals in an 8-7 victory over the Vancouver Giants on Saturday, Dec. 9. The explosive performance on special teams marks the ninth such occurrence in franchise history, and the sixth time under head coach Dennis Williams.

It is only the third time in franchise history the team has scored five goals on the man advantage as the road team.

The Silvertips were a perfect 5-for-5 on the powerplay, including three goals on a single major penalty. All five goals were scored by different skaters, including Tarin Smith (7:35, 1st period), Kaden Hammell (15:08, 1st), Dominik Rymon (18:00, 2nd), Ben Hemmerling (2:08, 3rd) and Julius Miettinen (2:18, 3rd).

"There's still things that we can improve," commented Silvertips assistant coach Dean DeSilva. "But it was nice to see the players finally get rewarded. There have been a lot of games where I thought our powerplay clicked better than it did that night and they weren't rewarded for it. You take the bounces where they come and you learn from every situation, whether it's successful or unsuccessful."

The feat had not been accomplished since Nov. 22, 2019- a 6-1 home win over the Saskatoon Blades. Everett was 5-for-8 on the powerplay that night, with two goals scored by Gage Goncalves, two by Gianni Fairbrother, and one by future all-time goals leader Jackson Berezowski.

Other instances of such powerplay prowess include Jan. 26, 2019 (9-1 W vs Lethbridge); Nov. 9, 2018 (6-1 W at Kamloops); Oct. 13, 2018 (7-2 W vs Kamloops); Jan. 7, 2018 (9-4 W vs Victoria); Nov. 15, 2016 (6-1 W vs Calgary); Nov. 30, 2013 (5-1 W vs Saskatoon); and Dec. 3, 2016 (6-2 W at Chilliwack).
