Hitting The High Notes

The Winterhawks found their stride across three divisional tilts last weekend, thrilling a raucous VMC on Friday and Saturday and picking up a key road win in Everett on Sunday. Two players accounted for hat-tricks in all three games, with James Stefan posting three goals on Friday and Sunday and Jack O'Brien netting a three-piece in front of a sold-out crowd on Teddy Bear Toss night.

Newcomer Tyson Jugnauth arrived in style with two assists in his WHL debut on Saturday and will certainly be leaned upon even more with Marek Alscher departing for World Juniors. In goal, Nick Avakyan posted his first win as a Winterhawk with 31 saves in Everett on Sunday, while Justen Maric earned back-to-back victories over Spokane and Seattle to kick off last weekend.

Yup, the Hawks are rolling - now they look to get the better of a team that's had their number thus far in the Wenatchee Wild.

Watching Wenatchee

The Wild enter tonight's contest with wins in four of their last five and points in 11 of their last 12 (9-1-2-0), but are lacking in star power after the departure of three players to World Juniors. Leading scorer Conor Geekie (8 pts) and top Buffalo Sabres prospect Matthew Savoie (6 pts) lead all skaters in scoring between these two clubs, but are both off to camp with Team Canada. Star import Rodzers Bukarts will also be absent as he competes for a spot with Team Latvia.

Wenatchee has taken all three contests with the Winterhawks, including two in comeback fashion. The most recent meeting - a 6-5 OT stunner at the VMC on Dec. 2 - will have left a particularly bad taste in the mouths of the Hawks, who know they have a prime opportunity to cut down the division leaders.

Milestone Moments

For all those stat geeks out there, we've got a trio of numbers to keep an eye on heading into the game!

Winterhawks captain Gabe Klassen recently hit a handful of milestones, including 200 games, 200 points and 100 assists. Now, the Prince Albert native is set to complete the foursome as he hits 100 goals with his next marker. His linemate, James Stefan, tore through the net last week with seven goals in three games, including two hat-tricks. The 20-year-old sniper now sits one point shy of 200 in his career through just 215 games. Rounding things out, 19-year-old Kyle Chyzowski is tracking toward career-best numbers with 22 points in 26 games on the year and now boasts 98 in his impressive career. A strong showing would put him above the 100-point threshold, so you'll want to watch Portland's #19 tonight.
