Danielson Named to Canadian World Junior Team
December 13, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
The wall in the dressing room area of Westoba Place that bears the names of Brandon Wheat Kings to represent their country at the World Juniors will need to find space for another name.
Team Canada announced their roster for the tournament today, and Wheat Kings captain Nate Danielson is among the 22 players named to the final roster. Danielson was also one of eight WHL players to make the final team.
Danielson, the ninth overall pick by the Detroit Red Wings, has been a standout throughout his WHL career for the Wheat Kings. Last season, serving as co-captain with Nolan Ritchie, he led the team in scoring with 78 points in 68 games. With 25 points in 24 games this season, Danielson has been a huge part of the team's recent five-game winning streak and has contributed in all situations, scoring five-on-five, four-on-four, and shorthanded, while setting up goals on the power play.
"It's a tremendous honour anytime you get a chance to represent your country, especially being a Canadian kid and playing for Canada at the World Juniors is a pretty special opportunity," said Wheat Kings head coach and GM Marty Murray.
Danielson and the rest of Team Canada will open up the World Juniors on Boxing Day in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Boxing Day against Finland. Prior to that, they will play exhibition games against Denmark on December 19, against the Swiss on December 22, and against the Americans on December 23.
