Everett Silvertips News Release

PORTLAND, Oreg. - The Silvertips may have lost 5-1 in Portland Friday night, but they still received some good news as they locked up the top seed in the Western Conference, securing home ice advantage through the first three rounds of the WHL Playoffs.

Michal Gut opened the scoring 3:45 into the second period, re-directing a Ty Gibson shot from the blue line for his 17th goal of the year. Penalty trouble would give the Winterhawks the edge, as Jack O'Brien buried a rebound on the man advantage to tie the game at 10:12. Aidan Litke also converted on the powerplay at 17:04 for a 2-1 lead.

Jaydon Dureau potted a breakaway goal to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead after two.

Dureau and Kurtis Smythe would tally in the third to complete the 5-1 win.

The Prince George Cougars bested the Kamloops Blazers in regulation, however, giving the Tips the two points needed to clinch the #1 seed. It is just the fifth time in franchise history that the Silvertips have posted the best record in the Western Conference, including the pandemic-shortened 2021 season in which they did not play outside their division.

The last time the Silvertips entered the WHL postseason as the top seed in the Western Conference was the 2017-18 campaign, wherein Everett marched to the Western Conference Final.

Everett has never finished lower than second overall in the Western Conference under head coach Dennis Williams.

Tickets are available for Games 1 and 2 of the first round at Angel of the Winds Arena.
