ICE Score Early, Cruise past Regina

The Winnipeg ICE scored five goals in the opening period on their way to a 6-1 victory over the Regina Pats Friday night at Brandt Centre.

Zach Benson's 24th, Mikey Milne's 37th, Conor Geekie's 24th (on the power play), Evan Friesen's 4th and Connor McClennon's team leading 43rd were scored in a span of 6:22 as Winnipeg improved it's record to 6-0 versus the Pats this season and 52-10-3-2 overall.

Braxton Whitehead was the lone Regina goal scorer as their record falls to 26-35-3-2. Regina remains two points behind Prince Albert and Swift Current for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with two games remaining.

Jakin Smallwood's 25th goal of the season was the lone marker in the third period.

ICE goaltender Daniel Hauser made 21 of 22 saves which included a penalty shot by Connor Bedard.

Kelton Pyne allowed four goals in 11:06 and was replaced by Spencer Welke who stopped 12 of 14.

Winnipeg went 1/2 on the power play while Regina was 1/6.

The two teams play again Saturday night at 8:00 Central time in Regina.
