July 2, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
South Bend, IN - For the second time in three days, the TinCaps were no-hit through five innings, the most recent episode a 2-0 loss at the hands of the South Bend Silver Hawks Tuesday night. Fort Wayne's lone hit came off the bat of Rodney Daal, as he hit a one-out single in the sixth inning.
South Bend (8-5, 52-30) starter Brad Allen (3-4) proved dominant both with his location and execution of his pitches, as he worked seven innings, with Daal the only TinCaps hitter to reach base against him. The right-hander struck out four batters, and gave way to Kyle Schepel, who pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Fort Wayne (3-9, 46-35) pitching proved equally capable, with Walker Weickel (2-4) going six innings and only allowing three hits. He walked one and struck out six. The two runs that scored against Weickel were unearned, and crossed in the second inning. Breland Almadova hit a ground ball to second, which was mishandled by Maxx Tissenbaum, to begin the inning. Tissenbaum was charged with his 14th error of the season on the play. Alex Glenn followed with an RBI double to right field, scoring Almadova. Glenn advanced to third on a fielding error by rightfielder Corey Adamson. The next batter, Mike Lang, grounded out, scoring Glenn, and also capping the game's scoring.
The TinCaps' best chance at a comeback came in the ninth inning against Silver Hawks reliever Jose Jose. The lefty plunked Daal to begin the inning, and then fanned both Brian Adams and Tyler Stubblefield. Adamson and Tissenbaum both drew walks, loading the bases with two down. Chris Burke hit a looping liner to short, which was grabbed by a leaping Andrew Velazquez to end the game.
Fort Wayne's eight-day road trip concludes Wednesday night as they face South Bend once again at 7:35 PM. The scheduled starters are Zach Eflin for Fort Wayne and Daniel Watts for South Bend. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
Note: In his major league injury rehabilitation assignment, Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera went 0-3 in three plate appearances. He started at shortstop, and was replaced by Tyler Stubblefield in the bottom of the sixth inning.
