Burlington Bees News Release

Anthony Bemboom had four hits, including three doubles, but the Burlington Bees struggled with runners in scoring position and fell 2-1 to the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday night at Community Field.

The Bees (27-50, 1-11) have struggled with men in scoring position during the 2013 campaign, but Tuesday night hurt more than usual, with the team going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position in a one-run loss. In the ninth, the Bees put runners at the corners with one out, but a line out by Chevy Clarke and a ground out by Wendell Soto ended the game.

Bemboom provided the bright spot to the night, reaching in all four at-bats on a single and three doubles, and scoring the only run for Burlington on a wild pitch. Garrett Cannizaro was also excellent, picking up three hits in four at-bats.

Peoria (43-36, 5-7) got to Tyler DeLoach (1-2) early on tonight, scoring a run in each of the first two innings. CJ McElory ripped a leadoff triple on the first pitch of the game and scored on a groundout by Charlie Tilson. One inning later, Breyvic Valera led off the frame with a single and scored on a two-out hit by Ildemaro Vargas.

Burlington threatened throughout the night against Cory Jones (4-1), getting eight hits off him, including two in each of the first two innings. Unfortunately, the timely hit was not there for Burlington this evening.

The Bees will try to end this 10-game losing streak on Wednesday night when Ryan Crowley takes the mound opposite of Kyle Helisek. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and there will be fireworks after the game to celebrate Independence Day.
