New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(Trenton, NJ)-Moises Sierra hit his 18th home run and Yan Gomes drove in a run but the Trenton Thunder snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 7-2 win over the Fisher Cats on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park.
With losses by both New Britain and Reading on Wednesday night, the Fisher Cats Magic Number to clinch a playoff berth is down to two.
Yan Gomes gave the Fisher Cats (73-64) a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI single. Anthony Gose, who had walked, moved to second on a sacrifice by Sierra, and scored on the Gomes hit.
The Thunder (65-70) offense used a pair of three-run innings to back winning pitcher Steve Garrison (4-8), who threw 5.2 strong frames to grab his fourth win of the season.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Jose Pirela tripled of losing pitcher Yohan Pino (3-8). After an Addison Maruszak walk, Ramiro Pena singled into centerfield to score Pirela and give the Thunder the lead. A batter later, Austin Krum roped a triple into deep right field to clear the bases and put Trenton up 4-1.
Sierra homered in the top of the sixth, but the Fisher Cats would get no closer than 4-2. Trenton pulled away with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Fisher Cats will play one more game in Trenton on Thurday at 7:05pm before finishing the regular season in Portland. Radio coverage with Dick Lutsk begins with the OCE North America Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network. LHP Shaeffer Hall (10-7, 4.26) starts for the Thunder against RHP Dustin McGowan (0-2, 3.38) for the Fisher Cats.
The Fisher Cats remain in first place (by three-and-a-half games over New Britain) in the Eastern Division of the Eastern League and playoff tickets are now sale. Visit www.nhfishercats.com Oh5Ly5X7HBCXNUox3QQe41q_YdvOGe25FhYw==] or call (603) 641-2005.
