Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves could not combat a two-run Binghamton Mets ninth inning on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park as they dropped the third game of the series 6-5.
The SeaWolves drew first blood in the third inning with Brandon Douglas getting on base due to a fielding error on Mike Fisher, stole second, advanced to third on Rawley Bishop's single, and came home to score on a wild pitch, giving Erie a 1-0 lead.
The B-Mets responded in the fourth inning with Reese Havens getting a base via a walk, followed by Brahaim Maldonado's two-run home run to left, putting Binghamton in front 2-1.
The Howlers would answer in the bottom of the fourth as Jaime Johnson got a base hit, advanced to third on a fielding error from starting pitcher Jeurys Familia, and came in to score on a throwing error from former SeaWolf Dusty Ryan, tying the game 2-2.
The Mets struck right back in the fifth as Eric Campbell led off with a solo homer to left-center. Afterwards, Ryan got on base with a single, advanced to second on Niuman Romero's base hit, progressed to third on Jon Malo's sacrifice fly, and came in on Matt Den Dekker's sacrifice fly, giving Binghamton a 4-2 lead.
The SeaWolves came right back in the seventh as Douglas led off with a walk. He would come into score while Justin Henry getting a single, who advanced to second on a fielding error on Juan Legares. Later, Bryan Pounds would pick up an RBI single, getting Henry home and tying the game 4-4.
However, Binghamton delivered the back-breaker in the ninth. After Eric Campbell got on base with a single, Ryan got the ultimate revenge on his former team with a two-run home run to left-center, giving the B-Mets a 6-4 lead.
Erie tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth as Douglas got his second walk of the evening, advanced to second on a wild pitch, got to third a sacrifice fly from Henry, and came into score on Bryan Pounds' fielder's choice groundout. Unfortunately, Binghamton's bullpen held on to preserve the win.
Mets pitcher Brad Holt (8-7) picked up the win, going 1 2/3 innings in relief while giving up no runs or hits, one walk, and one strikeout. Rhiner Cruz would earn his seventh save on the season, going one inning while giving up one earned run on no hits, one walk, and one strikeout.
