New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - Despite being in the midst of a furious pennant race, the Rock Cats are not forgetting about their neighbors in need. With the after-effects of Hurricane Irene still with us - and a persistently bumpy general economy - too many of our neighbors are struggling with the basics. In a joint effort to assist, the Rock Cats Foundation has joined forces with Health Mart and The Birthday Club to stage a Food Drive this Sunday afternoon at New Britain Stadium.
In a coordinated initiative to help restock the shelves of eight local Food Pantries, these three community-minded entities are respectfully requesting that all fans attending the Rock Cats 1:35 PM game on Sunday bring along a non-perishable food item that can be immediately donated to community organizations* in desperate need of new food supplies.
The Food Drive will be conducted at 12 Noon on Sunday, September 4th, just outside the Main Gates at New Britain Stadium. Donations will be gratefully accepted throughout the afternoon. All donors will receive a Complimentary Ticket to either a 2011 Rock Cats Playoff Game (cross your fingers!) or 2012's Opening Night Game next April. More importantly, every family or individual who pitches in on Sunday will know that they have done something good. And as the TV commercial suggests: "That's priceless".
Thank You.
* The Food Pantries Benefiting from Sunday's Food Drive include: The Friendship Service Center (New Britain), The Salvation Army of New Britain, The Manchester Area Conference of Churches (MACC), St. Vincent de Paul Mission (Waterbury), East Hartford Friendship Soup Kitchen, the South Congregational and Saint Christopher Church Food Pantries (East Hartford), South Park Inn (Hartford), and the House of Bread (Hartford).
