
Sibrian & Parra Lead the Way in 13-4 July 4th Victory

ZEBULON, N.C. - Jose Sibrian and Jesus Parra both drove in four runs, Kay-Lan Nicasia hit a three-run home run, Jadher Areinamo had three hits and starter Patricio Aquino pitched through the fifth with five strikeouts as the Carolina Mudcats defeated the Fayetteville Woodpeckers 13-4 in front of an Independence Day crowd of 6,313 on Tuesday night at Five County Stadium.
The Mudcats (4-6, 37-36) put up seven runs in the first, four in the second and two more in the third while jumping out to an early 13-0 lead on the visiting Woodpeckers (4-6, 34-42).
Sibrian got the early rally going with a two-run double in the first, Parra kept it going with a two-run single and Nicasia capped it with a three-run home run. In all, the Mudcats totaled seven runs and five hits in the first.
The four-run second started with Sibrian forcing in Luis Lara after reaching on an error. It then continued with a RBI double from Perez and a two-run double from Parra.
Fayetteville starter Jose Nodal pitched the first and part of the second and took the loss after allowing 11 Carolina runs on eight hits over an inning and 2/3. Reliever Deury Carrasco took over in the second and retired his only batter faced in that frame before giving up two more Carolina runs in the third. Those runs came on a Sibrian RBI double and a Jheremy Vargas run-scoring hit to right.
Sibrian finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs and two doubles all while setting a new career-high with four runs driven in.Parra also drove in four while matching his season high for RBI in a single-game. Parra went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
Carolina led 13-0 before Zach Cole and Tyler Whitaker homered in the fourth off Aquino (W, 2-3). Aquino had retired nine straight before giving up Cole's solo blast. In all, Carolina's starter pitched through the fifth with two runs, two hits, two homers and five strikeouts.
Reliever Jesus Rivero finished the game and earned the save after pitching through the final four innings. Rivero (S, 1) gave up a couple of runs, allowed just one hit, walked five and struck out four.
The victory gave the Mudcats a 1-0 lead in the six-game series. The series will continue Wednesday night with Winslow Homes Winning Wednesday and RHP Will Rudy starting for the Mudcats.
