PREVIEW: The Shorebirds washed out on back-to-back nights, the series finale against Lakewood and the series opener against Greensboro. Delmarva will now play a doubleheader against the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Monday evening. Including the shortened series with Lakewood, the Shorebirds have now lost five consecutive series.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Jose Adames will start game one for the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Adames has made three starts for Greensboro, going 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA. In each of his prior three outings, Adames has gone 5 2/3 innings, though he is expected to throw an abbreviated outing tonight. ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles took a 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run by Nick Markakis, and rode that score to the final out. With the win, the O's took 2 of 3 from the Seattle Mariners for another series victory. Baltimore has pushed their division lead to 3 1/2 games despite the offense struggling lately. The O's scored six runs in the Seattle series.
THE IRON IS HOT: 18 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.
