Shorebirds Game Notes vs. Greensboro

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds washed out on back-to-back nights, the series finale against Lakewood and the series opener against Greensboro. Delmarva will now play a doubleheader against the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Monday evening. Including the shortened series with Lakewood, the Shorebirds have now lost five consecutive series.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Jose Adames will start game one for the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Adames has made three starts for Greensboro, going 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA. In each of his prior three outings, Adames has gone 5 2/3 innings, though he is expected to throw an abbreviated outing tonight. The right-hander went 4-0 with a 1.32 ERA in Batavia earlier this season. The Dominican Republic native is just 21 years old.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles took a 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run by Nick Markakis, and rode that score to the final out. With the win, the O's took 2 of 3 from the Seattle Mariners for another series victory. Baltimore has pushed their division lead to 3 1/2 games despite the offense struggling lately. The O's scored six runs in the Seattle series.

THE IRON IS HOT: 18 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

With six shutout innings vs. Lakewood, the Shore- birds' starter has now pitched 20 1/3 consecu- tive scoreless innings. Gonzalez currently sports a perfect 6-0 record while the Shorebirds are 10-2 in games in which the lefty starts. Over the current scoreless streak, Gonzalez has lowered his ERA from 3.07 to now 2.20.

WHO'S HOT - ALEX SANTANA

The Shorebirds' reliever pitched 2 scoreless innings vs. Lakewood on Wednesday. San- tana has now struck out 28 batters in 20 in- nings pitched. In nine straight appearances, Santana has struck out at least two batters.

WHO ELSE - CHANCE SISCO

The Shorebirds catcher is batting .391 (61- for-156) in 40 games in the second half. Sisco is now 1st in the SAL with a .348 batting average. Sisco had an 18-game hitting streak, the longest by a Shorebird this year.
