LAKEWOOD, NJ - Jose Mayorga's go-ahead RBI single in the 8th put the BlueClaws ahead and Aaron Baker pitched around a runner at 2nd and nobody out in the 9th as the BlueClaws topped Asheville 6-5 on Monday night at FirstEnergy Park.

Mayorga's single, which scored Zach Green with the winning run, came off Asheville reliever Matt Carasiti after Mitch Walding bunted Green ahead to second base. It was Mayorga's second, and most important, hit of the night.

In the 9th inning, an error by Carlos Tocci put the tying run at second base with nobody out. After Zach Osborne bunted Raimel Tapia to 3rd base, Baker struck out Ryan McMahon, the league's RBI leader, and then got clean-up hitter Correlle Prime to ground out to short to end the game.

The BlueClaws (18-26/45-68) have now won three of their last four games and evened the series with Asheville (32-13/73-41) at one game apiece.

Baker (1-1) earned his first win in affiliated baseball, throwing three scoreless innings with no walks and two strikeouts.

Lakewood led 4-1 after a three-run second inning that included an RBI double by Mitch Walding and a two-run double by Malquin Canelo. Asheville scored twice in the third (before a Dylan Cozens 3rd inning RBI double), once in the 5th and once in the 6th to tie the game.

BlueClaws starter Tyler Viza gave up four runs in 4.1 innings and got a no-decision. Joey DeNato, who picked off a runner for the third time in his last four appearances, allowed one run in 1.2 innings before Baker took over. Asheville starter Johendi Jiminian gave up five runs in 5.2 innings and did not factor in the decision.

Mayorga went 2-4 for the BlueClaws while Canelo drove in two runs in the win.

The series concludes on Tuesday night at 7:05. LHP Yoel Mecias (1-0, 1.20) throws for Lakewood opposite LHP Kyle Freeland, the 8th overall pick in this year's draft who will make his Asheville debut.
