Hickory, NC - Hickory Crawdads infielder Travis Demeritte currently leads the South Atlantic League with 23 home runs this season, and as a result is among the finalists for the Joe Bauman Home Run Award, presented by Musco Sports Lighting.

Presented annually at the Baseball Winter Meetings, The Joe Bauman Trophy is awarded to the top regular season home run hitter in the domestic-based minor leagues. The winner receives a check representing $200 for each home run he hits, while classification leaders receive a $500 cash award.

Demeritte's 23 homers currently ranks 9th in the minor leagues, with 2013 Crawdad Joey Gallo once again leading the pack with 37 long balls on the year. Gallo, now with the AA Frisco RoughRiders, won the Joe Bauman Award last season with a minor league-best 40 dingers, while also breaking the Crawdads single-season home run record with 38 big flies hit in a Hickory uniform.

Minor League Baseball will announce the 2014 Joe Bauman Home Run Award winner on Sept. 2. The recipient will receive his trophy and monetary award on Monday, Dec. 8, at the Baseball Winter Meetings Awards Luncheon in San Diego, California.
