Asheville Tourists News Release

Lakewood, NJ--The Lakewood BlueClaws went step for step with the Asheville Tourists on Monday night and outlasted 13 Asheville hits to win 6-5.

The Tourists struck first with a run in their initial at-bat. With runners at first and second, Correlle Prime smacked an RBI double down the right field line. The lead did not last long as Lakewood answered in a big way.

With one out in the bottom of the second, the BlueClaws rallied with a walk followed by four straight base hits. They included an RBI double by Mitch Walding, a run-scoring single from Larry Greene Jr., and a two-run double by Malquin Canelo. Lakewood held a 4-1 lead after two.

Asheville responded with two runs on five hits in the top of the third. Prime once again drove in Tapia with a double, this time to centerfield, and Jordan Patterson collected an RBI with a single into center plating Prime.

The BlueClaws kicked their lead back out to 5-3 in the bottom of the third. Andrew Knapp promptly led off the inning with a triple to deep center. Knapp walked home from third on Dylan Cozens' RBI double, but Asheville's starter Johendi Jiminian was able to limit the damage to just the lone run.

In the top of the fifth, the Tourists made it 5-4 on Patterson's second RBI single of the night which chased Lakewood's starter Tyler Viza from the game. Asheville tied the game 5-5 when Zach Osborne singled home Tapia with two outs in the sixth.

The game remained tied until the home team scraped across the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth. Jose Mayorga singled to centerfield and Zach Green raced in from second base.

Asheville put a runner at third with one out in the top of the ninth, but were unable to plate the tying run.

The same two teams will wrap up their three-game series on Tuesday night with the first pitch slated for 7:05pm.
