Legends' Homestand: Fur Circus, Murder Mystery, Fireworks and More

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) A three-night run by the Fur Circus, a ballpark murder mystery, two Ford Fireworks shows and a distinguished guest list for Big L's birthday celebration are all part of the Lexington Legends' seven-game homestand August 4-10. The Legends, class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, will take on the Rome Braves, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, in a three-game series. That will be followed by a four-game series with the Greenville Drive, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

The schedule:

Monday, August 4: Legends vs. Rome, 7:05 p.m. Monday night is Kids Eat Free night, presented by Members Heritage Federal Credit Union. Monday is Big L's birthday celebration, and some special guests will take part, including Western Kentucky's Big Red, Mongo Man from BD's Mongolian Grill, Sportie from Sports Clips, Andy the Armadillo from Texas Roadhouse, and the Legends' Liger and Pee Wee, as well as Big L. The first 100 kids to bring school supplies for donation will receive a complimentary cupcake in the Legends' birthday tent down the left field line. Donations will go to children in Fayette County.

Tuesday, August 5: Legends vs. Rome, 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night is 37-cent hot dog night, in recognition of the Ford F-150 being the best-selling truck for the last 37 years.

Wednesday, August 6: Legends vs. Rome, 7:05 p.m. Fans can enjoy the game along with a good mystery on Murder Mystery Night, presented by Two Men and a Truck. Clues will be given throughout the game, and the fan who solves the mystery will win a "stache-tastic" prize.

Thursday, August 7: Legends vs. Greenville, 7:05 p.m. The Fur Circus (www.furcircus.com), a group of circus-themed characters who have performed at ballparks and other venues throughout the country, will be back in Lexington to begin a three-night stand.

"The Fur Circus has been one of the most entertaining and community involved acts we have ever had," said Legends President/COO Andy Shea. "It's a true delight to have them three nights in a row for a full weekend of fun!"

It's also a Kentucky Ale Thirsty Thursday, and beer and Pepsi products will sell for one dollar each through the seventh inning.

Friday, August 8: Legends vs. Greenville, 7:05 p.m. The Fur Circus will be back for another performance at Friday's game. Friday night is also Wine Night, presented by Gallo Barefoot. There will be a Ford Fireworks show after the game.

Saturday, August 9: Legends vs. Greenville, 7:05 p.m. Legends players will have a new look for Saturday night's game - they'll be wearing uniforms designed by nine-year-old Ryder McConathy of Lexington, who won the Legends' Create-A-Jersey contest, presented by Moe's Southwest Grill and Zaxby's. The Fur Circus completes a three-night run with a Saturday night performance, and there will be a Ford Fireworks show after the game.

Sunday, August 10: The annual "Guns "˜n' Hoses" softball game, matching Lexington police against Lexington firefighters, will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. It was originally scheduled for July 27 but was rained out that day.

The Legends will take on the Greenville Drive at 6:05 p.m. Sunday.

Following the Legends game, there will be a charity ball toss, sponsored by Bud's Gun Shop. Balls for the toss will sold for one dollar each during the Guns "˜n' Hoses game and during the Legends game. Proceeds will benefit Joe Vissing, a firefighter who is battling cancer.

Sunday is also a JIF Kids Club Sunday. Kids Club members receive free admission to the game, and all kids may run the bases after the game. Membership in the Kids Club is free.
