Rome Wins Series Opener over Legends, 7-4

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Jake Schrader's home run in the third inning gave Rome the lead, and the Braves went on to a 7-4 win over the Lexington Legends Monday night.

The Legends opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. With one out, Kenny Diekroeger singled, moved to third on a single by Frank Schwindel, and scored when Mauricio Ramos grounded out.

The Legends added a run in the second on a single by Humberto Arteaga and a double by Fred Ford.

In the top of the third, Reed Harper and Connor Oliver singled and Johan Camargo put down a sacrifice bunt, putting runners at second and third. Harper scored when Sean Godfrey grounded out, and Schrader followed with a two-run homer that gave Rome a 3-2 lead.

The Braves added four more runs in the fourth. Connor Lien drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on a single by Carlos Sanchez, who took second on the throw to third. Harper followed with a single, scoring Lien, and Oliver's single brought Sanchez home as Harper moved to third. Harper scored on a sacrifice fly by Camargo, and after Oliver was picked off first, Godfrey homered, and the Braves led 7-2.

The Legends came back with solo homers by Frank Schwindel in the sixth inning and Kenny Diekroeger in the seventh, but could get no closer.

Andy Otero (1-4), who relieved Braves' starter Brandon Barker at the start of the fifth inning, got the win. Richie Tate pitched the final inning and one-third to get his fifth save of the season.

Legends' starter Jake Junis (8-7) took the loss.

Andrew Brockett, who relieved Junis at the start of the fifth inning, pitched four innings of scoreless relief. He allowed two hits, struck out six batters and walked none.

The series continues Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
