Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds hung on for a 5-4 victory on Sunday evening, as they stranded the ty- ing run on third base in the 9th inning. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Delmarva. Hunter Harvey recorded the win with a solid outing, improving to 5-4. The Shorebirds can now earn a series split on Monday evening.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Andrew Cooper will make a spot start on Monday evening. Hagerstown used Nick Pivetta in a Thursday doubleheader, so to avoid a starter going on 3 days rest, Cooper will start the finale. On the year, Cooper is 5-1 with a 3.99 ERA in 17 appearances (3 starts). One of Cooper's starts came against Delmarva on May 26th, allowing just one run in five innings. The Washington Nationals drafted Cooper in the 12th round last year.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles lost 12-7 to the last-place Tampa Bay Rays to take a series loss at home. Manny Machado hit his third home run in four games, but it was not enough as Tampa scored seven runs in the sixth inning. The O's dropped to 42-39, but the AL East stand- ings remain unchanged as Toronto and Boston both lost as well.

THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.
