Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 30, 2014) - Trey Michalczewski raced around the bases for his second inside-the-park home run of the season, and the Kannapolis Intimidators beat the Charleston RiverDogs, 4-2, on Monday night for the team's sixth straight win. Kannapolis (38-41, 9-3 Second Half) completed a 4-game sweep of Charleston while matching its longest winning streak of the year.
Michalczewski finished 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored on his eighth inning inside-the-park home run his team-leading seventh home run of the season. With a full count, one out and nobody on base, the 19-year-old third baseman drove a ball to the track in right-center field where Brandon Thomas couldn't make the catch. RiverDogs second baseman Gosuke Katoh's relayed to catcher Eduardo de Oleo in time, but Michalczewski slid around the tag for a 4-1 lead.
His previous inside-the-park home run came April 6 against Greenville.
Starter James Dykstra (6-6) worked into the eighth inning for the second time this season, scattering nine hits over 7 and 2/3 frames and striking out eight for the win. Dylan Chavez tossed the final 1 and 1/3 innings to record his first career save.
The Intimidators took advantage of a pair of RiverDogs errors in the third inning to pull ahead, 2-1. With men on the corners and two outs, Charleston third baseman Miguel Andujar couldn't handle a Christian Stringer grounder, allowing T.J. Williams to score the tying run. Trey Michalczewski followed with a go-ahead single, scoring Cleuluis Rondon from second.
In the fourth, Jacob Morris reached on a Tyler Wade error to lead off the inning. He later scored when Carl Thomore grounded into a double-play for a 3-1 lead.
Charleston took an early 1-0 lead when Miguel Andujar led off the second inning with a base hit and, two batters later, scored on a Gosuke Katoh single.
RiverDogs starter Chaz Hebert (0-2) gave up three unearned runs over 4.0 innings, striking out two while taking the loss.
The Intimidators welcome the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles) to Kannapolis for a 3-game series starting on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. For ticket and promotional information, call the F&M Bank Box Office at (704) 932-3267 or visit IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
