About yesterday... The Hagerstown Suns (8-3, 52-29) had their four-game winning streak snapped by the Delmarva Shorebirds (5-6, 43-37) on Sunday evening, falling by a final of 5-4. The win for Delmarva halted a five-game losing skid.

Hagerstown took its only lead in the game in the third on a leadoff solo homerun off the bat of 1B Jimmy Yezzo. It was Yezzo's sixth long ball of the year, and fourth since the start of the second half of the season.

The Shorebirds responded by plating two runs in the top of the fourth. Third baseman Drew Dosch began the frame with a single to left. That was followed by a double off the bat of 1B Creede Simpson. Two batters later catcher Austin Wynns drove in Dosch with a ground ball single to left.

Then, a scrifice bunt laid down by SS Jared Breen brought home Simpson from third to make it 2-1.

Delmarva added a run to its lead in each of the next two innings. In the fifth CF Gregory Lorenzo led off with a double to center field. He moved to third on a single by RF Lucas Herbst, and scored on an infield single by 2B Jeff Kemp. Herbst was responsible for driving in the run in the sixth, as he singled with one out to drive in LF Sam Kimmel and make it 4-1.

The three run lead for the Shorebirds was short lived, however, as another long ball by Hagerstown in the bottom of the sixth moved the Suns within one run. This time it was LF Isaac Ballou who delivered a two-run shot into the visitors bullpen past the center field wall for his sixth homerun of the year as well.

Delmarva extended its lead again in the ninth when Dosch delivered an RBI double to center field with one out. That proved to be the winning run as Hagerstown again cut its deficit to one in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI infield single by SS Willie Medina. However, with runners on the corners and two outs, CF Narciso Mesa wound up popping out to second to end the ball game.

It was RHP Austin Urban who got Mesa to pop out to end the game, thus getting rewarded with his second save of the season. RHP Hunter Harvey (5-4) started for Delmarva and gave up three earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out nine over 5.1 innings to earn the win. Starting LHP Hector Silvestre (3-6) suffered the loss for Hagerstown. He went 5.1 innings as well, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out seven.

On the Mound... RHP Andrew Cooper will be heading to the hill this evening for the Suns. He is making his fourth start and 18th appearance this season. He last pitched on June 23 in relief at home against Lexington, throwing three scoreless innings and allowing four hits while striking out one to get the win. The last start for Cooper came on June 1 at Kannapolis. He went four innings in that game and gave up five earned runs on nine hits including one homer while drawing a no decision. This is Cooper's third appearance against Delmarva this season. In one start and one relief appearance against the Shorebirds this year Cooper is 0-0 and has surrendered just one earned run on eight hits over 10 innings. At home this year Cooper is 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA in seven games (one start). Overall this season he has pitched 47.1 innings, allowing 23 runs (21 earned) on 62 hits including three homers. He has walked seven and has struck out 29. Tonight he goes up against RHP Luc Rennie for Delmarva. Rennie is making his 13th start and 14th appearance of the year. He last threw on June 24 in a start at home against West Virginia, going five innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits while walking two and striking out five. This is Rennie's fourth time facing the Suns this season. He is 0-3 against Hagerstown and has allowed 21 runs (13 earned) to the Suns on 32 hits over 16.1 innings. On the road this year he is 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA in five starts. Overall this season he has pitched 68.1 innings, surrendering 56 runs (46 earned) on 105 hits. He has walked 14 and has struck out 57.

The Deal with Delmarva... The Suns and Shorebirds are playing the 16th of 23 games against each other this season and the 10th of 10 that will take place in Hagerstown. The Suns are 8-7 against Delmarva this year, including a 7-2 record against the Shorebirds at Municipal Stadium. The Shorebirds are currently 43-37 overall and 5-6 in the second half, good for sixth place in the Northern Division second half standings. Delmarva is currently fifth in team batting with a .268 average and third in pitching with a team ERA of 3.32.
