Greenville Drive News Release
Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads (10-2, 51-30) completed their sweep of the four-game series against the Greenville Drive (3-9, 37-44) with a 10-3 victory on Monday night.
The Drive started Monday's affair well, scoring three times in the first three innings thanks to bases-loaded walks by Kendrick Perkins and Jimmy Rider in the second and an RBI single by Manuel Margot in the third.
Hickory's pitching stymied the Drive bats from there, however, and their offense was up to the task all night long. A Greenville throwing error in the first put them on the board, and a second-inning sacrifice fly brought home another run, but a four-run third inning gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
After Teddy Stankiewicz (6-6) issued a leadoff walk to Joe Jackson, Nomar Mazara doubled to put runners on second and third. Lewis Brinson followed with an infield single to tie the game at three. Stankiewicz almost escaped the inning after a strikeout and a lineout, but Jairo Beras delivered the big blow with a three-run homer to right.
The Crawdads continued to do damage with the long ball later in the game, as Kellin Deglan tagged Taylor Grover for a solo homer in the fifth, and Brinson smacked a solo shot of his own in the seventh, his fourth homer of the series. They added two runs against Mario Alcantara in the eighth on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Janluis Castro.
Felix Carvallo (3-2) hurled three scoreless innings for the Crawdads to earn the victory. Their offense was led by Beras, who went 3-4. Brinson, Mazara, Michael De Leon and Evan Van Hoosier added two hits apiece. Wendell Rijo scored a pair of runs for Greenville.
The Drive look to end their seven-game skid as they return home on Tuesday to begin a three-game series with the Asheville Tourists. LH Trey Ball (1-7, 7.27) will deliver the first pitch at 7:05 PM for the Drive, while the Tourists will send RH Alex Balog (5-3, 3.73) to the mound.
