
Shorebirds Drop Intimidators 9-6 to Win Series

Kannapolis, N.C. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (26-19) used a consistent offensive attack to defeat the Kannapolis Intimidators (24-18) 9-6 in the series finale at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Shorebirds won the series three games to one.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators traded three runs in the first inning. Mikey Planeta started the game with a double and Ty Kelly followed with a single. Then, Jonathan Schoop hit a sacrifice fly to left field. After a Kipp Schutz single and a walk to Mike Flacco, Adam Gaylord hit a two-run flare single into left-center to give the 'Birds a 3-0 lead.
The Shorebirds regained the lead in the second. Planeta ignited the rally with a big chopper into left field. Kelly then walked to put runners at first and second base. Schoop followed with a two-run double into left-center field to lift the Shorebirds to a 5-3 lead.
Kannapolis added a run in the second to cut the deficit to 5-4. Drew Lee hit an RBI single to score Juan Silverio.
The Shorebirds constructed a comfortable lead in the fifth inning. Flacco got things started by hitting a two-out double to extend his hit streak to nine games. Then, Gaylord recorded his seventh RBI of the series on a flare into left-center field to increase the lead to 6-4. The next batter, Justin Dalles, blasted his fourth homer of the season to give the 'Birds a 8-4 edge.
In the sixth inning, the Shorebirds tacked on a run on the fourth RBI of the day for Jonathan Schoop to build a 9-5 lead.
Kannapolis tacked on a run in the sixth inning to pull within 9-6. Kyle Eveland doubled and scored on a single by John Spatola. Shorebirds starter Scott Copeland was removed with two outs and runners at first and third. Ryan Palsha entered and struck out Trayce Thompson to end the threat.
Scott Copeland earned his fourth win in 5.2 innings pitched. Ryan Palsha held the Intimidators silent over the next 2.1 innings. Palsha struck out four and did not allow a hit. David Walters tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 12th save of the season.
The Shorebirds bullpen pitched 5.1 scoreless innings over the final two games of the series.
Planeta lead the Shorebirds offense with his second straight three-hit game.
