PREVIEW: The Shorebirds aim for a series win in the finale against the Kannapolis Intimidators. It would be their first series win since the Asheville series between May 5 and May 8. Jacob Pettit tossed seven innings last night to lift the Shorebirds to an 8-3 win. The Shorebirds plated seven unanswered runs over the final six innings. Hagerstown lost its fourth straight game pulling the Shorebirds within 2.5 games of first place with 26 games remaining in the first half.
SEASON HIGH FOUR: Adam Gaylord is a season high tying four-game hit streak (7-17, .411). He recorded his first three-hit and three-RBI game of the season last night. Gaylord's batting average has jumped from .201 to .233 during the recent success. Gaylord is batting .290 on the road and just .185 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
MOST IN THE SYSTEM: With his fifth win last night, Jacob Pettit leads all Orioles minor league pitchers. Bobby Bundy (Frederick) and Zach Clark (Bowie) each have four wins.
WITHOUT MACHADO: The Shorebirds will play their 18th straight game without 3rd overall pick Manny Machado, who injured his left knee on May 5 against Asheville. The Shorebirds are 9-8 without Machado.
15-GAME ON BASE: Mike Flacco has reached base in 15 straight games dating back to May 7. He takes a eight-game hit streak into action tonight (18-32, .562). Flacco is 9-of-14 with five RBIs through three games in the current series His batting average has jumped from .231 to .327 during the eight-game hit streak.
10 OUTFIELD ASSISTS: Brenden Webb recorded his 10th outfield assist of the season in game one, most in the SAL. He gunned down Kyle Eveland at the plate in the third inning. For perspective, Kannapolis has only 11 outfield assists combined this year.
