Former Major Leaguer Whisler Returns to Intimidators

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 23, 2011) - Left-handed pitcher Wes Whisler joins the Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, today as a member of the bullpen. Whisler, who made his MLB debut for the White Sox in 2009, comes to Kannapolis after spending time this season with Advanced-A Winston-Salem and AAA Charlotte.

Whisler began 2011 with the Charlotte Knights, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings against Norfolk to earn a win on April 10. On the season, he has thrown 6.0 innings between Charlotte and Winston-Salem, allowing seven hits, 10 earned runs and 10 walks while striking out five batters.

The White Sox drafted Whisler in the second round (53 overall) of the 2004 draft out of UCLA. The former Bruin was a two-time All-American in 2002 and 2003. Whisler pitched in 10 games for the Intimidators in 2004, making seven starts and going 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 45.1 innings of work. He pitched in three Major League games for the White Sox in 2009, going 0-0 with a 13.50 ERA, allowing two runs in 1.1 innings with three walks and two strikeouts.

Additional roster moves today include relief pitcher J.R. Ballinger returning to Kannapolis from Winston-Salem and reliever Leroy Hunt being promoted to Winston-Salem.
