Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Albuquerque Isotopes (26-28) offense had been in a serious dry spell the last two nights but their bats erupted for eight runs in the seventh to secure a 9-4 comeback victory over the Nashville Sounds (23-31) Friday night at Isotopes Park. Dallas McPherson stretched his PCL-lead in homers to 17 as he tattooed two home runs in addition to driving in four RBI on the night. The triumph was just the second comeback win for the Isotopes in 2008 with the first occurring on April 25 when the Isotopes rallied for a 3-2 win at Oklahoma,
Down 4-1 in the seventh, the Isotopes erupted for eight runs to seize control of the game. John Baker started the inning by smashing a ground ball off the first base bag for a single and quickly scampered to second on a pinch-hit single by Chase Lambin. Following a walk to Robert Andino that loaded the bases, the hottest âTopes hitter of the homestand, Chris Barnwell, crushed a line drive double down the third base line that plated Baker and Lambin, narrowing the lead to 4-3. Andrew Beattie kept the rally going with a single to left-center field that cleared the bases and gave the âTopes their first lead of the night, 5-4. Sounds reliever and former Isotope Erasamo Ramirez would then intentionally walk John Gall to set up a potential double-play, a strategy that was thwarted by Tagg Bozied, who smashed a single up the middle driving in Beattie and extending the âTopes lead to 6-4. McPherson then delivered the exclamation point on the inning by hitting a towering three-run blast to left field to give Albuquerque a commanding 9-4 lead. The long ball, his second of the night, gave him his second multi-homer game of the season.
Like they had in the last three consecutive games, however, the Sounds jumped out to a first-inning lead as Hernan Iribarren led off the game with a double only to quickly steal third and allow Tony Gwynn to grab an easy RBI with a sacrifice fly that gave the Sounds a 1-0 advantage.
The Sounds added to their lead in the third when Gwynn reached on a two-out bunt single up the third base line to set up Laynce Nix, who would drive in Gwynn on a line-drive double to left-center field extending Nashville's lead, 2-0.
Albuquerque scratched the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a McPherson laser shot solo homer over the right-field fence that narrowed the score to a single run at 2-1.
Nashville would respond in the sixth with three consecutive singles that loaded the bases for Adam Heether, who would hit a fielder's choice ground out to short that drove in another run for a 3-1 Nashville advantage. Brendan Katin would then single to left field, scoring another run that gave Nashville a 4-1 lead.
After Isotopes starter Frankie De La Cruz completed six innings of work, the duo of Ross Wolf (1-1, 9.00) and Marcos Carvajal shut down the Sounds completely in the final three frames to ensure the 9-4 victory.
The Isotopes begin the second half of their eight-game homestand by welcoming the Memphis Redbirds to Isotopes Park. Taking the ball for Albuquerque will be right-hander Gaby Hernandez (2-3, 5.79) who will square off against Redbirds righty P.J. Walters (3-0, 5.00) in a 7:05 PM start at Isotopes Park.
The âTopes continue an action-packed homestand tomorrow night with the first of two appearances this season by Harry Canary and the ever-popular Zooperstars! presented by New Mexico Railrunner.
