Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Indianapolis Indians broke a scoreless tie with seven runs in the sixth inning Wednesday night at the DBAP, propelling them to an 8-1 win over the Durham Bulls.
After right-hander Dylan Floro faced the minimum through five innings, Indianapolis (65-47) exploded for seven runs in the sixth frame. The Indians sent 13 men to the plate in the inning, tallying nine hits, seven of which were singles. Dan Gamache delivered a sac fly to centerfield to open the scoring, and after three straight singles Keon Broxton drove in a pair with a single to left. Willy Garcia singled home two, before scoring himself when Elias Diaz singled to right to make it a six-run game. Three batters later Gamache struck again, this time with an RBI double to rightfield for a 7-0 advantage.
The visitors tacked on a run in the top of the seventh, before Durham (53-58) scored its lone run in the bottom of the stanza. After Ryan Brett singled, Taylor Motter walked and Jake Elmore singled to lead off the frame and load the bases, Hak-Ju Lee was hit by a pitch to score Brett from third.
Righty Chris Volstad (9-4) picked up the victory, surrendering just one run on six hits over 6 1/3 innings. Floro (9-11) was saddled with the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 frames, while tying a career-high with eight strikeouts.
The series concludes Thursday evening when Durham sends the rehabbing LHP Drew Smyly (0-1, 15.43) to the mound against RHP Tyler Glasnow (0-0, 1.69) for Indianapolis. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the DBAP.
