Syracuse, NY (8/5/2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs completed a three-game sweep of the Pawtucket Red Sox with a 7-4 win on Wednesday night. Chiefs starter Taylor Jordan pitched seven strong innings, allowing only three hits while striking out five. Emmanuel Burriss and Steve Lerud each had two hits and two RBIs in the win.

Pawtucket (44-67) got on the board first in the final game between the two teams at NBT Bank Stadium this year. In the top of the third inning, Jeff Bianchi led off with a walk and then stole second. After a strikeout and a fly out, former Chief Sandy Leon singled to center, scoring Bianchi and giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse (46-67) answered right back in its half of the third. With one out, Mario Lisson singled followed by a hit-by-pitch for Lerud and then a Burriss single loaded the bases. Trea Turner, the next batter, hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Lisson. Jason Martinson continued the rally in his at-bat, singling to right and driving in Lerud to bring the score to 2-1.

The Chiefs continued to add on runs in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Caleb Ramsey and Lisson hit back-to-back singles putting runners on first and second. Steve Lerud then worked a walk to load the bases for the second time in as many innings. After Pat Light came in to replace PawSox starter Matt Barnes, Burriss lined a single to left, scoring Ramsey and Lisson, and doubling the Chiefs' lead to 4-1.

After no runs in either of the next two innings, Syracuse scored again in the bottom of the seventh. New pitcher Tommy Layne promptly gave up a single to Matt Skole and then a double to Matt den Dekker to put runners on second and third. After a strikeout, Ramsey singled to drive in Skole and then stole second during the next at-bat to put runners on second and third. Lisson then walked to load the bases. Lerud followed with a two-run single, scoring den Dekker and Ramsey to push the lead to 7-1.

The Red Sox constructed a rally of their own in the top of the eighth. Matt Grace entered to replace Jordan and gave up a leadoff double to Bianchi. After giving up back-to-back walks to Marco Hernandez and Jemile Weeks, Leon singled with the bases loaded to drive in Bianchi. Allen Craig then reached on an infield single that scored Hernandez, cutting the lead to 7-3. With the bases still loaded and no outs, left-hander Sammy Solis entered. He retired the next three batters in order, surrendering only one run on a Garin Cecchini fielder's choice, before throwing a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the game.

The Chiefs and Red Sox next begin a four-game series in Pawtucket on Thursday night with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. Syracuse right-hander Paolo Espino will take the mound against right-hander William Cuevas.
