Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons take on the Charlotte Knights in the second game of a three-game series at BB&T Ballpark (7:05 p.m.). The Herd earned a 7-3 victory in last night's opener to improve to 57-53 on the season. Buffalo gained a game in the chase for the IL North division and now trail Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by just 3.5 games.
vs. the Knights
The Bisons are 4-1 against the Knights this season with last night's win clinching a season-series victory over Charlotte. Buffalo also picked up a series win when the Knights visited Coca-Cola Field, June 11-14. With a victory tonight, Buffalo can pull even with Charlotte for the all-time series matchup, which is now at 70-71.
Todd Redmond
RHP TODD REDMOND returned to the Bisons rotation last week and threw four shutout innings in a no-decision in Syracuse, July 30. The veteran was 1-2 with a 4.18 ERA in 13 relief appearances. He earned his lone save in 229 career minor league outings with two shutout innings on June 13 against the Knights in Buffalo.
MattVP
INF MATT HAGUE leads the IL with 143 hits -26 more than any other hitter. Hague is just seven hits shy of becoming the ninth Bisons player in the modern era with 150 hits in a season and the first since OF Jesus Feliciano in 2009 (154). Hague is on pace for 188 hits, which would break Jhonny Peralta's modern era team record of 181 set in 2004.
Starting Strong
Bisons starters have not allowed more than one earned run in each of the last seven games. The group has a 0.86 ERA over that span since July 28 with 30 strikeouts and 30 hits allowed in 42.0 innings.
Good Eyes
The Bisons struck out just twice last night against the IL's top strikeout pitching team while drawing eight walks. The Herd's 688 strikeouts this year are tied for their 3rd-fewest while their 397 walks are the most in the circuit. Buffalo is 2nd in the IL with a team .336 on-base pct.
