Seven Again for Gillheeney as Kings Clip Chiefs

Clinton LumberKings News Release
Peoria, IL - Left-hander Jimmy Gillheeney kept the Peoria offense off the board for six innings before giving up two runs, but still lasted through seven innings as the Clinton LumberKings bested the Chiefs, 5-2 at O'Brien Field.
Gillheeney (W, 6-6) made one mistake all day, serving up a no-doubt two-run homer to D.J. Fitzgerald with Justin Bour aboard in the seventh inning. That blast cut the lead to 3-2, but Gilly worked his way out of the inning with no further damage. Left-hander Jose Jimenez (S, 2) then pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning for the save.
The LumberKings' offense sent right-hander Ryan Searle (L, 4-3) to the loss with just one run against him over 6.0 innings. That run came in the fourth when Luis Nunez and Nick Franklin recorded back-to-back singles and Tim Morris lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Nunez for a 1-0 lead.
Clinton would add to the lead against right-hander Ronny Morla in the seventh as Brandon Bantz roped a two-out double down the left-field line and scored on Matt Cerione's triple to deep center field. Cerione would score on a Morla wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.
After Fitzgerald's clout made it a one-run game, the Kings answered with two more runs in the eighth. Morris and James Jones each lined two-out singles to push the lead to 5-2.
Nunez finished 3-for-4 atop the order, while Franklin bounced back with a 2-for-5 day that included two stolen bases. Morris drove home two runs with a 1-for-4 game, and Cerione added a 2-for-4 game and another RBI on his fourth triple of the year.
Fitzgerald drove in both of Peoria's runs with his fourth home run of the season. He'd also add a single, finishing 2-for-4.
The LumberKings (7-4) conclude the series with Peoria (3-8) at O'Brien Field tomorrow night, first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Left-hander Nick Czyz (1-0, 1.47) will make his third start of the year in his second outing against the Chiefs. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
