Kernels Take Nightcap from Wisconsin, 13-5

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels bounced back from dropping Sunday's suspended game to take the second game of a three game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 13-5, as Casey Haerther went 2-2 with a double and 5 RBI. The Kernels scored runs in the first five innings and chased Wisconsin starter Damon Krestalude (2-4) after just 2.1 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and walking four.

Kernels starter Tyler Kehrer (3-3) picked up the win, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and striking out six over five innings. Buddy Boshers worked the final two innings, giving up a run on three hits and striking out one.

The Kernels scored three runs in the third and fourth inning and after Wisconsin cut the Kernels lead to 8-4, scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Kernels had 13 hits as Michael Win was 3-4 with a double and RBI; Matt Long was 1-3 with 2 RBI; and Jean Segura went 2-3 with a triple, RBI and three runs scored. Mike Trout was 2-4 with a double, RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base (41).

Michael Marseco led Wisconsin, going 2-3 with 3 RBI and Scooter Gennett was 2-4 with two doubles and a run scored.

The Kernels and Timber Rattlers wrap up their three game series on Tuesday at 6:35 pm.
