Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels came up a run short in the ninth inning as they dropped the first game of a three game series with Wisconsin, 6-5, in the completion of Sunday's suspended game. The Kernels led 4-3 when play resumed, but Wisconsin tied the game at 4-4 on a solo HR by Chris Dennis and added two more in the top of the 8th as Dennis doubled home Hunter Morris and then scored on a Kernels error.

The Kernels mounted a rally in the ninth as Matt Long drove home Jon Karcich to cut the lead to 6-5. Wisconsin reliever John Pokorny got pinch hitter Casey Haerther to strike out with runners at first and second to end the game.

Matt Long finished the game 3-5 with a HR and 3 RBI for the Kernels and Justin Bass went 2-4 with a triple and RBI. Jon Karcich went 2-3 with an RBI and run scored and Mike Trout was 2-4 with a stolen base (40). Chris Dennis was 4-4 with a HR, two doubles and 4 RBI for Wisconsin.

Wisconsin reliever Efren Nieves (2-3) picked up the win, allowing a hit and striking out three over 4.2 innings and Pokorny notched his fifth save. Kernels reliever Tyler Skaggs (6-4) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits over 5 innings of relief.

The Kernels look to take Monday's scheduled game, shortened to seven innings, as Tyler Kehrer starts for the Kernels against Damon Krestalude for Wisconsin.
