Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs fell behind early Monday afternoon and never recovered on Monday, falling to the Clinton LumberKings by the score of 5-2. The loss drops the Chiefs to 3-8 on the second half of the season, last place in the Midwest League's Western Division.

The LumberKings got on the board first in the top of the fourth off starter Ryan Searle. Luis Nunez singled and advanced to third on a hit-and-run play when Nick Franklin singled. Tim Morris hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Nunez and make it 1-0.

Clinton added to the lead in the seventh off reliever Ronny Morla. With two outs Brandon Bantz doubled and scored on a Matt Cerione triple. A wild pitch from Morla allowed Cerione to score and made it 3-0.

The Chiefs answered in the bottom of the seventh off starter Jimmy Gilheeney. Justin Bour singled before DJ Fitzgerald crushed the first pitch he saw for a no-doubt home run over the berm in left field to make it a 3-2 game.

The LumberKings got the runs back in the eighth inning off Morla and Jordan Latham. With Nunez on first Franklin reached on a fielders' choice off Morla before the Chiefs brought in Latham. Franklin stole second base and scored on a Morris single, with Morris advancing to second on the throw home. Morris advanced to third on a third strike wild pitch to Mario Martinez and scored on a James Jones single to make it 5-2.

Searle (4-3) pitched six innings and gave up one run on four hits while walking one and striking out four. Morla threw one and 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits and struck out two. Latham pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up one run on two hits while walking one and striking out one. Steven Grife pitched a scoreless ninth inning and surrendered two hits while striking out one.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - DJ Fitzgerald (LF) - Fitzgerald went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in two on his fourth home run of the season.
