Harrisburg Senators News Release
Ryan Tatusko gave up just one run in six innings of work, and Jack Spradlin threw three shutout innings in relief, as the two pitched the Harrisburg Senators to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Trenton Thunder at Metro Bank Park on Thursday evening. Â The Thunder (77-54) came in with the best record in the Eastern League, but could not muster more than the single run against Tatusko and Spradlin. Â The Senators (70-60) moved to ten games above .500 for the first time this season, and put pressure on Bowie to keep pace in the playoff race. Â The Baysox were 1.5 games back coming into the day.
All three of the runs for the Senators came on two-out hits, starting in the first inning when Chris Marrero drove in Jesus Valdez from second base to put the Sens up 1-0. Â Trenton tied the game on a Matt Cusick double in the second inning, but another two-out single in the fourth inning put the Sens in front for the second time. Â That one came off the bat of Michael Burgess, and drove home Marrero. Â In the sixth, a two-out single by Edgardo Baez brought home Valdez, and brought the score to its final margin.
The Senators outhit the Thunder 9-6 in the ballgame, getting a three-for-four night from Marrero, who is now thirteen for his last twenty-four. Â Valdez added two hits, and Johnson, Burgess, Baez, and Ofilio Castro each had one. Â Spradlin's great outing, which included four strikeouts, earned him his first save of the year, while Tatusko improved to 2-1 with the win. Â Trenton starter Cory Arbiso (5-3) took the loss, as he gave up three runs in six innings pitched. Â Justin Snyder had the lone multi-hit performance for the Thunder, finishing two-for-three.
Game two of the four-game weekend series is set for Friday night at 7 PM, with RHP Tanner Roark (1-1, 2.04) making the start for the Senators. Â He faces RHP Andrew Brackman (3-7, 3.53) of the Thunder. Â Fans can hear all the action beginning at 6:45 PM, by tuning in to 1460 AM The Ticket or logging on to www.senatorsbaseball.com.
