Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - After waiting over a month to complete the suspended game from July 12, the Richmond Flying Squirrels bested the Altoona Curve, 9-6, in the completion of the game on Thursday night at Blair County Ballpark. Adrian Martin (5-1), who started the game when it was resumed on Thursday, earned the win for Richmond in relief while departed starter Tim Alderson (7-6) suffers the loss for Altoona.

The game was picked up with runners at second and third and one away in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Curve trailing, 6-3, and Chase d'Arnaud at the plate. D'Arnaud singled and Miles Durham came home from third to make it, 6-4. Josh Harrison, who had to be inserted into the game for the departed Shelby Ford, hit into a fielder's choice that scored Anthony Norman from third and all the sudden Altoona was within a run.

That is as close as they would get as the bullpen trio of Martin, Andy Sisco and Rafael Cova was able to keep the Curve offense relatively contained for the remainder of the game. Richmond added three runs off of Derek Hankins, who pitched the final five innings for the Curve. The Squirrels scored all three of the runs in the ninth inning to open up a 9-5 lead.

Altoona answered back in the bottom half with two away when Jim Negrych singled in Matt Hague for the Curve's final run but the game ended on a strange play. Kris Watts, who was rounding third on Negrych's single, was accidentally touched by Curve skipper Matt Walbeck as he was rounding third and the umpires called interference. Watts was ruled out and the game was over.

Jordy Mercer finished the first game 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
