Sens Beat Utica Behind Taylor
March 2, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release
Danny Taylor had a shutout as the Belleville Senators beat the Utica Comets 1-0 Friday night.
Taylor made 32 saves for his first shutout of the season while Gabriel Gagne had the lone Senators goal. Richard Bachman stopped 27 shots in the Utica goal.
After a scoreless first period, in which Ben Sexton and Colin White came closest to breaking the deadlock on the same shift, it was Gagne who finally cracked the scoreboard on his 17th goal of the year in the second. The second year pro pump faked Bachman with a slapshot, forcing the Comets goalie to move, before Gagne wired a slapper past him at 3:32 of the middle frame. Daniel Ciampini drew the lone assist on the goal.
Senators defenceman Andreas Englund dropped the gloves with Cole Cassels in the second in the only other noteworthy moment of the period as the Sens took a one-goal lead to the third period.
The Comets threw 10 shots on Taylor in the third but they couldn't solve the Sens netminder and despite Ben Sexton not being given an automatic goal for being slashed on a breakaway towards an empty-net, Belleville sealed a 1-0 victory.
Senators defenceman Macoy Erkamps played his 50th career AHL game while Taylor's shutout is the second in Sens history.
Belleville are back in action Saturday for the middle game of a 3-in-3 as they host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the first and only time this season on Women's Hockey Day at the Yardmen. Tickets are available.
