Season Best Four-Goal Third Period Leads P-Bruins to 6-3 Win

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Charlotte Checkers Friday night in their first meeting at the Dunk since 2010-11. The P-Bruins got goals from Austin Czarnik, Colby Cave, Josh Hennessy, Jordan Szwarz, Peter Cehlarik and Chris Porter while Zane McIntyre earned his 20th win in net.
Charlotte had the better of the offensive chances in the 1st period, but McIntyre kept them off the scoreboard. Their best chances came via turnovers, but McIntyre robbed Nick Schilkey from point blank range followed by a short-handed breakaway chance midway through the period. Providence went the first 14 minutes without a shot on goal, but were able to strike first with just one minute remaining. Tommy Cross fed Czarnik from the left point, and Czarnik was able to deflect the puck for his 15th goal of the season. His shot beat Alex Nedeljkovic high glove side and the P-Bruins brought a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
The Checkers got their first power play of the game at 8:38 due to Colton Hargrove's slashing call, but Providence got the game's first goal despite being short handed. Shortly after Hargrove headed to the box, Cave scored a short handed goal from the top of the crease at 12:14 off a centering feed from Porter. His fifth goal of the season doubled the P-Bruins lead to 2-0. Josiah Didier scored his third goal of the season at 2:17 for the Charlotte, but the Providence still brought a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
Trevor Carrick tied things up for Charlotte 4:32 into the third, but after the Checkers made things 2-2 the P-Bruins offense dominated with a season-best four goals in the period. Hennessy started the offensive barrage with his eighth goal of the season at 8:18. Cehlarik shot the puck at Nedeljkovic, but he could not control the rebound. Hennessy got it and put it home from the left slot to give the P-Bruins a 3-2 edge. Five minutes later, Szwarz regained a two-goal Providence lead with his team-leading 17th goal of the season. While on the power play, he picked the top right corner from the bottom of the circle at 13:05. Colton Hargrove and Czarnik earned helpers on the play and the P-Bruins took a 4-2 lead. Just 57 seconds later, Cehlarik made it 5-2 on his eighth goal of the year. Kenny Agostino started the play in the left wing corner and centered the puck out for Cehlarik. He finished the play with a one-timer from the left dot and Providence increased the lead to three. Sergey Tolchinsky cut it back to 5-3 with four minutes left, but Porter's empty netter sealed a 6-3 P-Bruins win.
McIntyre stopped 25 of 28 shots while Nedeljkovic stopped 36 of 42. Providence was 1-2 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins head to Hartford tomorrow afternoon at 3pm as they take on the Wolf Pack for the third time in their last four games.
