Bruins' Big Third Buries Checkers
March 2, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release
PROVIDENCE, RI - In the first of three games in three different cities over three nights, the Checkers couldn't keep up with the Providence Bruins, falling 6-3.
Charlotte's offensive struggles continued as they fell into a 2-0 hole to Providence midway through regulation, but a sneaky backhander from Josiah Didier in the waning minutes put the visitors on the board heading into the second intermission.
The Checkers kept that momentum rolling in the third, with Trevor Carrick ripping a wrister from the left circle to knot the score at two less than five minutes into the frame. Things would swing the other way as the period wore on, however, starting with a go-ahead tally from Josh Hennessy minute later.
The Bruins would then pile on with two quick strikes following that to regain their two-goal advantage. Sergey Tolchinsky would give the Checkers some life with a marker in the final five minutes of play, but an empty netter quickly followed, clinching Providence's lopsided victory.
