Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch scored three goals just 2:53 apart in the third period to comeback from a two-goal deficit and defeat the Binghamton Devils, 3-2, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Matthew Peca opened the floodgates halfway through the final frame before Carter Verhaeghe and Erik Condra added goals to extend a six-game winning streak. The win advances Syracuse to 35-18-2-3 on the season and 5-1-0-0 in the 10-game series against Binghamton.
Between the pipes, Connor Ingram stopped 26-of-28 shots for the Crunch, while Ken Appleby turned aside 21-of-24 for the Devils. Syracuse went 2-for-8 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Devils were first to light the lamp halfway through the first period. Kevin Rooney passed ahead for Nick Lappin to skate in on a 2-on-1 and beat Ingram from the right circle.
Binghamton made it a two-goal lead on the power play 8:49 into the third. Jacob MacDonald netted a wrister from the high slot with the help of Christoph Bertschy and Lappin.
Halfway through the third stanza, the Crunch exploded for a comeback with three goals in 2:53. Peca started it off when he picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone during 5-on-3 play. The center skated down the right wing and fired over Appleby's blocker. Condra and Mathieu Joseph tallied the assists.
A minute later, Syracuse knotted the game with another power-play goal. Condra carried the puck behind net and sauced it to Verhaeghe in the right wing circle. He fired short side just under the crossbar. Volkov tallied the secondary helper.
Condra scored the game-winner with 9:57 remaining in the contest. Daniel Walcott dropped a no-look feed across the zone for Peca. He fanned on the one-timer, but managed to backhand a centering feed for Condra to cash in as he came in behind the play.
Syracuse continues their homestand when they host the Laval Rocket tomorrow at 7 p.m.
