
Senators Come Back to Ground Squirrels in Extras 4-3

The Harrisburg Senators came back to beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-3 in 10 innings Friday night at The Diamond. The Senators trailed 3-0 in the seventh before scoring the final four runs of the game.
The Flying Squirrels took a 3-0 lead after five innings on a pair of home runs. Luigi Rodriguez opened the scoring with a solo shot in the fourth and Matt Winn hit a two-run homer in the fifth.
Senators starting pitcher Cesar Vargas threw six innings of three run ball in a quality start.
Richmond starting pitcher Jake McCasland tossed six shutout innings before the Senators knocked him out of the game after scoring two runs in the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs, Hunter Jones knocked a two-run single to left to cut the 'Squirrels lead to one.
The Senators tied the game in the top of the eighth. After loading the bases on a single and two walks, Osvaldo Abreu took a walk which forced in a run and knotted the game at 3-3.
The game remained until tied until the 10th. With the free-runner, Daniel Johnson, at third after a sacrifice bunt, Alec Keller knocked a run-scoring single to left which put the Senators on top 4-3.
Roman Mendez pitched a perfect bottom of the frame to seal the victory and notch his 11th save. The free-runner, Caleb Gindl, was retired in the frame after being caught in a run-down trying to score on a groundball back to Mendez with one out.
Derek Self (5-2) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win while Ryan Halstead (4-4) took the loss after surrendering the go-ahead unearned run in the top of the 10th.
Drew Ward led the Senators offense three hits.
The Senators and 'Squirrels play game two of their four-game series Saturday night. Jaron Long takes the hill for the Senators against Richmond starting pitcher Chase Johnson. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at The Diamond.
