Jhang, Hayes Fuel Curve to 11-Inning Win in Bowie

CURVE, Pa. - Jin-De Jhang picked up four hits and drove in four runs as the Altoona Curve outlasted the Bowie Baysox, 9-5, in 11 innings on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium.
The Curve (76-59) trimmed their magic number to two to clinch their second straight Western Division crowd behind five runs in the top of the eleventh against the Baysox (66-69).
Trailing by a run entering the eighth, Jhang hit a double to score Ke'Bryan Hayes and even the score at 4-4 in the top of the inning. The Curve had the bases loaded with one out in the inning but could not take the lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Bowie loaded the bases with two outs, but Sean Keselica worked out of the inning. The Baysox loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Matt Eckelman (Win, 1-1) worked a force out and a groundout to escape the jam.
In tenth, Bowie reliever Jay Flaa struck out the first two batters he faced to strand the extra-inning runner at second base. In the bottom of the ninth, Eckelman left runners on second and third to force an 11th inning.
In the top of the 11th, Tyler Gaffney put the Curve ahead with a two-run double against Chris Lee (Loss, 1-1) and scored later in the inning on an error to open a 7-3 lead. Hayes and Jhang each came through with RBI singles to extend the lead to 9-4.
The 11th inning was delayed for 36 minutes for rain.
The Baysox plated an unearned run in the bottom of the 11th, but Tate Scioneaux left two runners on base to end the game.
The Curve struck for the game's first run in the first inning with an RBI force out bounced into by Will Craig, his 99th RBI of the 2018 season.
Jhang hit a two-run double in the third to open an early 3-0 lead.
The Baysox closed the gap to one in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI double by Erick Salcedo and an RBI single by Ryan Mountcastle.
Bowie took a 4-3 lead in the in the sixth inning with a two-run homer by Yusniel Diaz.
Altoona starter James Marvel allowed four runs over six innings with three strikeouts.
Bowie starter Dean Kremer struck out 10 over his six innings and allowed three runs.
Hayes went 4-for-6 with an RBI and scored three runs. Jhang finished his night 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and a walk.
Keselica and Eckelman each pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
The Curve and Baysox continue the series on Saturday night. Right-hander Eduardo Vera (8-3, 3.86) will start for the Curve, opposed by Baysox right-hander Dillon Tate (7-5, 4.13). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium.
