Seitzer Drives Hot Rods Past Kernels
April 19, 2012 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Behind Cameron Seitzer's two hits and two runs batted in, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (10-4) took down the Cedar Rapids Kernels (7-7) 6-1 on Thursday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Four different players had multi-hit nights as the Hot Rods scored their highest run total at home this season, improving to 10-4 on the year. The win also marks the fastest the Hot Rods have reached ten victories in a season in franchise history.
For the second time in as many days, the Hot Rods scored the game's first run. Taylor Motter drew a first-inning, bases-loaded walk to give Bowling Green an early 1-0 advantage, one that the team extended to 3-0 in the bottom of the third. Jeff Malm started the rally with a double to right-centerfield, and, later in the inning with the bases loaded again, Matt Rice singled to right field to score another run. Jake Hager then made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The all-of-the-sudden red-hot Hot Rods offense was in attack mode again in the bottom of the fourth. After Drew Vettleson doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, Todd Glaesmann scored the former first round pick on a sacrifice fly to right field. The Hot Rods then put together a two-out rally as Seitzer capped it with a two-run double into the right field corner.
Ryan Carpenter put together a stellar start for the Hot Rods, facing just one over the minimum in his five frames. The lefty, who won for the second straight time, did not allow a run on three hits and struck out six Kernel hitters. Carpenter turned the game over to the Hot Rods bullpen, who allowed one run after being staked to a six-run lead.
As the season's longest homestand continues at Bowling Green Ballpark, the Hot Rods will take on the Kernels in the middle game of a three-game set on Friday at 7:05 PM. Getting the pearl for Bowling Green is RHP Roberto Gomez (0-0, 5.40), while the Kernels will counter with LHP Michael Johnson (0-1, 6.00).
