
Kernels snap skid with 5-2 win at Peoria

PEORIA, Illinois - Ryan Crowley pitched 5.2 scoreless innings as the Kernels topped Peoria 5-2 at O'Brien Field on Wednesday night. Crowley (1-1) allowed no runs on only three hits while striking out two and walking none. Stephen Tromblee pitched 1.2 innings and allowed no runs on no hits as he picked up his first save. He struck out three and walked none.
The Kernels took the early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Kevin Moesquit singled to lead off the game, stole second base, and came home on a RBI single by Kaleb Cowart. The Kernels extended their lead to 4-0 with three runs in the fifth inning. Ryan Jones brought home two with a RBI double off the wall in right field. Jones then scored when Cowart reached on a fielding error by Chiefs second baseman Wes Darvill.
Jose Rosario (1-2) started for the Chiefs and took the loss, going 4.2 innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out six and walking two. In the sixth inning the Kernels pushed their lead to 5-0. Trevor Hairgrove doubled and came home on a RBI single by Carlos Lugo.
Peoria got on the board with two runs in the seventh inning off of Kernels reliever Eswarlin Jimenez. Oliver Zapata's RBI double to right scored Paul Hoilman. Zapata later scored on a RBI groundout by Marco Hernandez, cutting the Kernels lead to 5-2.
Luis Liria went 1.1 innings for Peoria out of the bullpen. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out three and walking one. Andrew McKirahan pitched two scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out three and walking none. Jeff Lorick went one inning and allowed no runs on no hits while walking one and striking out one. Eswarlin Jimenez went 1.2 innings in relief for the Kernels. He allowed two runs on four hits.
The Kernels continue the nine game road trip at Bowling Green on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. The team returns home on April 26 at 6:35 p.m. vs. South Bend.
