
Kernels fall at Bowling Green, 6-1

Bowling Green, KY - The Kernels dropped a 6-1 decision to the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Thursday night. The Kernels offense was held to six hits. Bowling Green took the early 1-0 lead on a bases loaded walk in the first inning. After two singles and a walk, Kernels starter Jairo Diaz walked Taylor Motter to bring home Ryan Brett and give the Hot Rods the early lead.
The Hot Rods scored two more runs in the third inning to push their lead to 3-0. Matt Rice's RBI single scored Jeff Malm. Jake Hager's sacrifice fly to deep left field plated Motter.
Bowling Green put up three more runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 6-0. Todd Glaesman's RBI sacrifice fly to right scored Drew Vettleson. Later in the inning Cameron Seitzer's RBI double to the right field corner scored both Malm and Motter.
Jairo Diaz (1-1) started and took the loss for the Kernels. He went 3.2 innings and allowed six runs on 10 hits while striking out two and walking four. Logan Odom pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out two. Ty Kelley pitched two innings in relief, allowing no runs on no hits.
The Kernels scored a run in the eighth inning, cutting Bowling Green's lead to 6-1. Chevy Clarke tripled and came home on a RBI single by Matt Scioscia.
Ryan Carpenter (2-1) started and got his second win for the Hot Rods. He threw five scoreless innings while allowing three hits. He struck out six and walked one. Trevor Shull pitched three innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits. Charlie Cononie pitched the ninth inning, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out two.
The Kernels continue the nine game road trip at Bowling Green on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.. The team returns home on April 26 at 6:35 p.m. vs. South Bend.
