
Helm's Eighth-Inning Double Lifts Hawks to Thrilling 12-10 Win

SOUTH BEND - Matt Helm's RBI double to left-center in the eighth inning broke a 10-10 tie and helped
send the South Bend Silver Hawks (7-7) to a thrilling 12-10 win Thursday night over the
Beloit Snappers (7-7). The two teams combined for 22 runs and 31 hits in the Silver Hawks highest
scoring game of 2012.
The Silver Hawks scored eight runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead, only to see the Snappers
respond with three in the fifth and six in the sixth to claim a 10-9 advantage. Josh Parr tied the game at
ten in the seventh inning with an RBI basehit through the left side.
Seth Simmons (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts out of the
pen. Left-hander Corey Williams (0-1) got the loss allowing two runs - including the Helm double - on
two hits with one strikeout over an inning of work.
The Snappers scored the first run of the game in first inning on a solo home run from Miguel Sano. The
Silver Hawks answered in the fourth inning with eight runs on eight hits. The Hawks sent 14 men to the
plate in the inning.
Jesse Darrah started for the Silver Hawks and got a no decision, allowing four earned runs on eight hits
over five innings. Tim Shibuya got a no decision for Beloit despite allowing eight runs - two earned - on
seven hits over 3.1 innings.
Left-hander Taylor Siemens allowed six runs - five earned - on five hits over 0.1 innings.
Offensively for South Bend, Ender Inciarte went 4-for-4 with three doubles and three runs scored. Helm
finished 3-for-5 with two knocked in. Tom Belza extended his hitting streak to seven games with a 2-for-4.
Gerson Montilla and Bobby Stone also went 2-for-5. Stone had a two-RBI double in the fourth inning and
an RBI single in the eighth.
Eight of the nine Silver Hawks starters recorded at least one hit and at least one run scored.
The Silver Hawks and Snappers will play game two of the three-game series Friday night at Coveleski
Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7:35 p.m. EST. Right-hander J.R. Bradley gets the start for the
Silver Hawks and he will be opposed by left-hander Jason Wheeler. Archie Bradley will start for the
Silver Hawks on Saturday at Coveleski Stadium. Tickets are available for purchase
