Charlotte, N.C. - The Checkers surrendered three goals in the second period against the South Carolina Stingrays and were unable to tally a goal to start a comeback as they were defeated by their division rivals in a 4-0 contest.

After a scoreless first period, the Stingrays struck for three goals in the middle stanza. Their first tally of the contest came at the tail end of a power-play as Stingrays forward Josh Godfrey took a nice pass from Travis Morin and blasted it over the glove of Checkers netminder Jeff Jakaitis at 10:03. Later, Stingrays forward Keith Johnson wrapped the puck around the Checkers net and fed linemate Maxime Lacroix who blasted it past the right pad of Jakaitis at 15:39 giving South Carolina a 2-0 lead. In the dying seconds of the stanza, Stingrays forward Matt Scherer skated swiftly inside the Checkers zone and wristed a shot off the glove of Jakaitis and into the net. As the period ended, the Checkers trailed 3-0.

During the third period, Scherer would add his second goal of the contest on a one-timer at 19:25 and the game would end 4-0.
